Hey guys,
This is Psalm's newsletter 1….better late than never right?!
Okay so here are the latest news about and surrounding the band:
•
Most importantly: the band now has a new drumming family member! His name is Donat Fatrez, he's 26 years old, plays drums and percussion for about 20 (!) years en spent over 11 (!!) years in music academy! He answered to the ad we posted on several locations (including our website) about three months ago. We were extremely lucky as we only auditioned two drummers…but that was more than enough! Both guys are amazingly talented, experienced and very nice people, and the choice was pretty tough. Donat joined the band about a month ago, but as the band was put on hold due to François and Thierry's university exams, we'd rather announce the news when Psalm is fully active again! Donat's technical skills have blown us away each and every time he played with us and we have no doubt the public will feel the same on future releases and shows with him. We of course feel extremely fortunate and are now pretty confident the band has risen to yet another level. Now we only need…to prove it!
• That means of course we parted ways with David, as stated on the official Psalm website on April 18th. We'd like to insist on the fact that there's no animosity whatsoever between David and the rest of us. The reasons for his departure are purely musical: on one hand, he didn't feel close to the musical orientation the band is taking anymore (see below) ; on the other hand, due to Psalm's new musical style, we now definitely need a very technical, steady and hard-working drummer, and David wasn't prepared to do the necessary sacrifices anymore. In the meantime, as stated previously, David will perform on all Psalm shows with us until the end of August. That way Donat will have all the time he needs to master the old and new songs perfectly. Finally, we would like to say we're thanking David very much for the years spent with him, the record we had the chance to record with him, and overall for all the good times we shared together. David is now working on a new musical project: we'll tell you more about it as soon as something concrete comes out of it, and we sure wish him the best of luck!
• Since late May-early June, Psalm is working on brand new songs, which definitely represent a whole
new era for the band. Chris is handling most of the writing duties, and the basic structures are completed with Donat's work, which is mind-blowing! Sylvain will probably have a greater creative input in the near future (he's already working on some stunning solos!) as he's working on some stuff by himself. As hinted before, the new songs are very different from the first album "Fortune's Complexity": the whole thing incorporates a lot
more extreme metal elements. I can't be more precise at the time, as it would be stupid to unveil further details when songs are at such an early stage of writing. But it will surely be
catchier while weirder and more extreme at the same time. Until now the whole thing sounds very original and sick as hell, and we're working hard to make it as ambitious and fucked-up (in a good way!) as can be! We'll record at least one song as soon as we can so you guys can hear the result on our MySpace page and tell us what you think about it! How about that?
•
New merchandise: Psalm now has official hoodies! It was a long wait but here they! Check out the design (by David) on the left. We'll sell them at our future shows for 25 euros so don't miss them out!

• As the line-up has now changed quite a lot since the recording of our first album (arrivals of Sylvain and Donat), we'll shoot a second bunch of promo pictures in a very near future. Stay tuned for that…
•
New reviews: a few new ones are popping up once in a while, and we try to be careful not to miss any of them. Check'em out on our website's press department. The newest ones? HardcoreSounds (English), XtraKs (French), Metal Italia (Italian) and of course the great Aardschok Magazine (Dutch)!
• Please excuse the absence of live and promo pictures on the website: this is only a temporary situation, our webmaster Greg is working on the problem and it should be fixed very soon…
Okay that's it for now! Psalm will be very active this Summer playing shows and even more during this Fall and Winter, cuz' we will play (hopefully) a lot more shows while working on releasing something new (MCD or CD) by the end of 2007 or early 2008. Thanks for your support and keep on coming to our shows, guys! See you soon!
